Aerial imagery

Hexagon Geospatial’s new blog has pointed readers to a BoredPanda article that shows off 30 simply stunning aerial images (which the above image is taken from). Well worth a look, even though us spatial types usually think we’ve seen it all before.

The AeroMetrex blog has created a pretty darn cool ‘Sim City’ version of Melbourne, by projecting it using an isometric projection. Cue the tears of nostalgia.

GIS Lounge has the news that ESRI is entering the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) arena by offering an intermediate GIS spatial data analysis course. An interesting entry that may signal further courses in the future.

The All Points Blog has an interesting take on DigitalGlobe’s current market position, including the probable reasons behind the stock market ‘jitters’ that it’s been facing.

APB also reports that the US National Park Service is looking to ban all UAVs / drones from being used in any of its 401 parks. Meanwhile, NASA are considering using a drone on Saturn’s moon, Titan.

GIS and Science has the news that the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) have signed a collaboration agreement to enhance the development and use of geospatial standards.

HERE has announced on its blog that it is rolling out a new design for its maps – available immediately on and Yahoo! Maps, and coming later in the year in on mobile operating systems.
