SLICP renamed to CaptureWA

WALIS – the Western Australian Land Information System – has decided to rename its State Land Information Capture Program (SLICP) to CaptureWA, in a bid to make it less confusing for new users, especially when it’s mentioned alongside the Shared Location Information Platform (SLIP).

To quote from the WALIS newsletter:

“Here at WALIS we have been working hard to extend the reach of our flagship products, SLIP and SLICP to new audiences, as spatial information works its way into seemingly every part of our lives. However, it has become apparent that the similarity of SLIP and SLICP acronyms sometimes leads to confusion, particularly with those new to the WALIS community.

“As such, the long running State Land Information Capture Program (affectionately known as SLICP), is being re-branded ‘Capture WA’ in preparation for the upcoming 2015-2016 Capture Program Callout.

“The CaptureWA name was selected following an online poll of the WALIS community, and the WALIS Office will be working over the coming program to introduce the CaptureWA brand and over time phase out references to SLICP.

“So What Changes? At the end of the day, CaptureWA will still have the same objective and deliverables as SLICP. In addition, our efforts to continually grow and improve the program remain. However, some minor changes have already occurred, including the URL of resources and information on the WALIS website – now: http://www.walis.wa.gov.au/projects/capturewa.”

Additionally, the 2015-2016 Capture Program Callout will be opening soon – so now is a good time to canvassing your organisations spatial data needs for the upcoming financial year. To assist in planning, WALIS have released a new interactive online Aerial Mosaic Currency Index.
